WIN-sport-parternshipDecember 9th was the continuation of a new era for Winthrop Charter School Athletics thanks to the Athletic Director Coach Richard Golphin and the other Winthrop Coaches. Over 250 students were extremely excited about this new partnership and sport being offered.

The Tampa Bay Lightning, led by the Executive Director of Community Hockey Development, Jay Feaster, conducted a day long hockey clinic with the 3rd thru 8th grade P.E. students. The students were filled with enthusiasm as the Lightning Street Hockey Team taught them the needed skills to play Street Hockey, but most importantly, the rules of safety that need to be followed during practice and game play. The students were given a bigger thrill at the end of their clinic when they were told they were allowed to keep the Street Hockey stick and ball they had used for the clinic. As a school, we were also given over $1000 worth of Street Hockey gear to enable our school to participate in the upcoming CFCAL new Street Hockey Season in January of 2016.

Our school is very fortunate to Partner with a Professional Organization such as the Tampa Bay Lightning to give our students an experience that most may never have had otherwise.
