Ms. Schepis’s Spanish classes had a Spanish emersion experience when visiting the Columbia Restaurant this week. The Hernandez Gonzmart family opened this landmark Columbia Restaurant in Tampa’s historic Ybor City in 1905. Today, it’s Florida’s Oldest RestaurantSM and the world’s largest Spanish restaurant. Prior to the visit, students learned how to say different foods and how to communicate in Spanish with wait staff through creating menus, writing skits, and going through role playing activities that led up to this great cultural experience. They spoke and listened to Spanish, saw authentic artifacts and dancing.
